Founded by a CBRNE Army veteran and emergency responder, our model ensures Puerto Ricans own and benefit from their energy future.
Borikén Futuro is a Puerto Rican nonprofit building community-owned microgrids to bring renewable energy access, resilience, and economic opportunity to underserved rural and coastal communities. Our mission is to decentralize energy in Puerto Rico, empower landowners, and reduce vulnerability to disasters. We aim to expand across the Caribbean as a model for sustainable, self-determined island infrastructure.```
We directly align with UN SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), and SDG 13 (Climate Action). We also address SDG 1 (No Poverty) and SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) through community reinvestment and job creation.
