The woman who told me where to stand
Nicole Cornetti holds the title Ms New York Universe 2025 to 2026 and serves as a UN Peace Ambassador. Tomorrow she is co-producer and New York coordinator of Moda Week International's New York City Fashion Show at The Mezzanine, 55 Broadway.
I know Nicole because she ran the models at the first show I ever walked in, last summer, for Propel community member Cat Schuller. I was the one who did not know where to stand. She is the reason I ended up in the right place at the right minute anyway.

Nicole was also the model coordinator at Times Square Fashion Week on Tuesday. In practice that meant deciding who walked, in what order, and getting people to the right place at the right minute in the middle of Seventh Avenue, with traffic held, a permit clock running, and no second attempt available at any part of it.
Nothing ran late. Nobody stood in the wrong spot. Nobody was still looking for their look when the music started.
That is the entire job, almost nobody does it cleanly, and it is the only thing about a show a designer actually needs to know. A show is a promise about time. If the person holding the run of show is good, your looks go out when you were told they would go out. If she is not, you spend the evening backstage watching work you spent months on fail to reach the runway.
Nicole is the New York half of tomorrow. That is the half that decides whether your load in works, whether your models are where they should be, and whether the thing you made gets its clean six minutes in front of the room.
The last way in, and it closes tonight
Two ways to be in the show tomorrow instead of watching it from a seat. Both close tonight.
Designers. A capsule that can walk without a fitting call. Bring your own looks, and tell me whether you have your own models or need them found for you. Tell me how many looks and I will tell you tonight whether the running order can take them.
Exhibitors and vendors. A table in the room from doors at 5. Jewelry, accessories, beauty, art, anything a person dressed for a black tie show would pick up and carry home with them. You load in and out the same evening.

Tuesday, Times Square Fashion Week. Seventh and 47th closed to traffic. A red carpet in the middle of Manhattan with the billboards for a backdrop, and the runway at 6:15 on Father Duffy Square. The looks people are still posting about are the purple ballgown, the pink satin, and the yellow feather takeover.

A citation I did not see coming
Assembly Member Rebecca A. Seawright presented me with a New York State Assembly Citation, on behalf of the residents of the 76th Assembly District, dated 15 September, the day of the show.
It is given for entrepreneurial leadership, commitment to empowering change makers, and dedication to building communities, connections and opportunities that transform purpose driven ideas into meaningful action.
I did not expect it. A citation for connecting people is not really a citation for one person, so if you have ever replied to one of these emails with a real ask, some of it is yours.
